Our Classroom May 25

Since we have reading back in our own classroom, we were able to spend the morning reading and making a project.  We read about a walk in the woods and about worms.  Students made a short worm poem.

We also had our last Art Adventure with Haven’s mom.  Students compared two paintings and then drew a place they would like to visit or have visited and made it into a postcard.

We began to set up our campground.  Students made their desks into tents.  On Tuesday, we will be at “Camp Learned-A-Lot” for the week.  Look for a yellow sheet in your child’s folder that explains this a bit more.

Have a great weekend.

Our Classroom May 21

Students went to Physical Education class today.

We took another part of our common assessment for math this afternoon.  We also played tens and ones Bingo.

We were able to paint our fish today.  Tomorrow, we should have enough time to stuff them and hang them up with the seaweed students made.

We will attend a performance tomorrow morning about healthy living.  It is called Pirates of the Carrot Bean.

Just a reminder to return all library books as soon as possible.  Students are no longer able to check out books here at Blue Heron.

Enjoy the wonderful evening!

Our Classroom May 17

Many students performed during Music.  Thank you to all the families who were able to attend. The children love seeing parents here.

Students were finishing up some great fish stories.  We began a project designing our own fish.  Hopefully, we will have enough time to finish them tomorrow.

Students have been taking short assessments in math as well as reviewing many skills.

Tomorrow (Friday) is the Blue Heron Walkathon.  Our class will be walking in the morning.  If you have time, you may want to apply some sunscreen before school and send your child to school with comfortable walking shoes already on their feet.

Thank you to all the families who have donated to the Walkathon.

Have a great evening.

Our Classroom May 15

Sorry I was not able to post on Monday.  I was at a funeral.  Mrs. Erickson said she had a good day with the students.

Students attended music class today.  They sang and practiced rhythm by clapping and using the rhythm sticks.

We took a math test today.  There is not a home link sheet for homework this evening.  Students will not have any more home link sheets sent home for evening homework.  I will send them home in a packet to be used as you see fit.

We will continue practicing all the concepts and skills that were introduced throughout the year.

We discussed our state symbols a little more this afternoon.  We will be writing a “fishy tale” tomorrow.  Hopefully students are coming up with some fun tales this evening.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Our Classroom May 11

Students went to Physical Education today.

We read a story about the state flower.

We compared fractions during math.

We read with our second grade friends.

It was a pretty busy day!

Thank you again to all the families who sent in so many wonderful things.  I appreciate all your thoughts and kind words.

Happy Fishing!

Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday!

Have a great weekend!

Our Classroom May 9

Students went to Cybrary.  They did a little research on Como Zoo and checked out books.

We worked on some number stories during math and some fractions.  We did not finish the lesson, so your child does not have a home link sheet for homework.

Continue to encourage your child to read, write, and practice math a little each day.

Have a wonderful evening.

Our Classroom May 7

We had so much fun at the bike show this afternoon.  Matt Wilhelm entertained us with his bike tricks and he also reminded us to never give up on things that can be difficult at first.  He talked about bullying behaviors and how to help friends if they are they are being teased, called names, or hurt by others and reminded us to treat everyone with respect.

Students also went to Physical Education class.  They ran the half mile.

We reviewed fractions with some number stories.  We were not able to finish the lesson, so students do not have a home link sheet this evening.

Enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

Our Classroom May 4

Students went to Physical Education today.  The did a sit and reach test and then danced!

We also had an art adventure with Mrs. Long.  She showed us a picture of a dining room/living room from long ago and a picture of a garden.  Students made a stepping stone.  The project is drying over the weekend.  Hopefully, we will be able to send them home on Monday.

We completed our explorations lesson today.  Students worked on symmetry, estimation, and learned a little about volume.  Students were also measured and compared their height now from last winter.  Students have a home link sheet this weekend.

We also read with our second grade friends.

We had a fairly busy day!

Enjoy the weekend!

Our Classroom May 2

It seems strange to be typing the date with May as our month.  Time is going by so fast.

Today, many students were able to check out new library books.  Students also learned about some of the special labels on a library book.  If you child forgot his/her library book, send it in tomorrow and he/she can exchange it in the afternoon.

During math, we complete our April graph and wrote about the month of April.  We also made our May calendars.  Your child does not have a home link sheet this evening.

Continue to encourage your child to read, write and practice some math skills a little bit each evening.

Enjoy the warm weather!
